Excellent news for electric vehicle owners without a driveway!
From today (21 October 2026), drivers of fully electric vehicles will no longer need planning permission to install cross-pavement charging solutions, following changes announced by the Government.
These systems allow charging cables to run safely beneath the pavement, connecting a home charging point to a vehicle parked on the street.
The change removes one of the barriers faced by households without off-street parking, potentially saving drivers up to £300 in planning application costs and making home charging more accessible.
With home charging potentially costing as little as 2p per mile, this could make switching to an electric vehicle a more viable option for households that previously relied on public charging facilities.
Equally, if you already own an EV but have been put off installing a home charger because of the planning application process, it is worth exploring your options again.
At RSUK Group, we offer free, no-obligation site surveys to assess your property and discuss the charging solutions available to you.
