We’re on day 5 of National Cadet Week. Today’s highlight is “Skills For Life”

Our progressive training syllabus is well known. And cadets can go from Blue badge to Gold badge in most activities available to them. But the activities are worth so much more than the badge. Activities such as leadership, instructional technique, presentation skills and other more niche subjects such as specific flying activities or radio comms all provide the cadets with skills that can be useful to them should they choose the military route or civilian route in life. Holding high drill and uniform standards aren’t just about looking smartly turned out when in uniform. They’re about looking smart and well turned out regardless. leadership tasks also promote teamworking and good timekeeping skills.
All really important skills for every day life

National Cadet Week - First Aid Training

First aid training is something delivered to both cadets and Adult Instructors. Cadets start off with the foundational skills when they first join, and can work their way up through the progressive training to Gold level where they can qualify as First Aid Instructors.

Training doesn’t just run in the classroom though! Exercises are run in the form of realistic scenarios designed to test their new found skills. The scenarios can also incorporate some other elements of training too such as fieldcraft!
First aid is an essential life skill that the cadets clearly enjoy learning too!!

Behind every cadet is a team of dedicated instructors who give up their spare time, skills and experience to help young people thrive!

Our Uniformed and civilian instructors give up their evenings, weekends and holidays to plan and run activities, camps and create opportunities for the cadets. Often qualifying in specialist skills which means giving up more spare time than normally expected. But in the interest of giving more opportunity to the cadets to learn new skills.

When we’re not teaching new skills, we’re often organising behind the scenes.
But did you know alot of instructors now, started out as cadets? That’s certainly the case for 99% of 213 Squadron staff. Putting the skills and experience back in what our instructors gave us when we were cadets!

So today we give thanks to all Cadet Force Adult Volunteers in every cadet organisation. Thanks for giving up your valuable time and experience so that our cadets and our organisations can continue to thrive

Day 2 of looks at Cadets in the Community.

Our Squadron can be regularly found at local and national events such as Medway Armed Forces Day, Remembrance Day, The Battle Of Britain Parade and others such as The Royal International Air Tattoo.

Did you know we regularly complete fundraisers too? Recent fundraisers include the Great Tommy Sleepout, RBL Poppy Appeal, and the annual Rotary Club North Downs Walk. Just to name a few.

We’re lucky enough to have 2 of our cadets performing additional functions as Medway Mayors Cadet, and Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet.

Did you know this week is the first “National Cadet Week” in celebration of all MOD sponsored cadet forces!
This week we celebrate our cadets and adult staff for their commitment and dedication!

Helping the cadets achieve and be the best they can be is at the heart of the RAF Air Cadets. Its no surprise that the cadets make lifelong friends from the other cadets they meet! And that goes for staff too! Cadet Force instructors typically commit a good few years of volunteering (some volunteer a career lifespan) and in that time forge links and friendships with other instructors!

A good percentage of ex cadets went on to start careers in Aviation, and the regular armed forces. They’ve all said that having been a cadet beforehand gave them a huge headstart in life.

To our cadets, thanks for being you! We’re proud of you and your achievements!

If you’re interested in joining please speak to your local Squadron for more information.

That’s a wrap! And what an afternoon it was. There were far too many photo’s taken to include on this post but here’s a small selection!

A special thanks to Mayor of Medway for attending and presenting the cadets with their awards!
A huge well done to all our cadets for your hard work this year! Whether you won an award or not, the Squadron staff are all hugely proud of all of you and all you’ve achieved this year!
Carry on doing what you’re doing! To those that didn’t receive an award, continue to work hard and maybe next year it could be you picking up a trophey!

We love awards day 😁
