Godmanchester Remembrance Service
Sunday 8 November at 10.55am

Everyone is welcome to join us as we remember and honour those who gave their lives in service.

This year we are working in partnership with The Black Bull Godmanchester , to offer attendees free tea, coffee, squash and biscuits from 10am to 11.45am at the pub, next to the War Memorial.

We hope you will join us for this act of remembrance.

The Deputy Mayor of Godmanchester, Cllr Karen Pauley was honoured to represent our town, accompanied by her husband, at the Annual Trafalgar Night Dinner hosted by the Royal Society of St George and the Royal Naval Association.

The evening brought guests together to commemorate the Battle of Trafalgar and toast the immortal memory of Admiral Lord Nelson.

Guests enjoyed an entertaining evening, which included a charity raffle, with proceeds shared between Mind and The Mission to Seafarers.

This weekend the Chinese Bridge was light up in purple to raise awareness for Developmental Language Disorder day.

DLD is a type of speech, language and communication need (SLCN) that affects the way that children understand and use language. DLD increases the risk of a range of negative impacts on education, employment, and social and emotional problems, but appropriate support can make a difference. DLD affects 7.58% of children.

Speech and language therapists (SLTs) support to put strategies into the classroom in order to maximise children’s language learning and use. They support a range of language difficulties by helping others, e.g. teachers and parents, in their use of communication techniques and communication friendly classrooms.

What a wonderful celebration of belonging to Godmanchester.

On a beautiful sunny day, we came together at St. Mary’s Church for the Mayor’s Civic Service, led by our Town Chaplin, Rev Daniel Beckett.

It was an honour to welcome the Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Chris Parkhouse, the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire, Francis Burkitt, and Mayors from our neighbouring towns and parishes. They joined our Scout and Guide groups, town councillors, residents and representatives of many community groups.

The choirs from St. Anne’s School and GCA & GBA Combined filled the church with joy. The Youth Council shared thoughtful reflections on what belonging means to them, and the Cubs group brought fantastic artwork. Our young people brought so much warmth and creativity to the day.

Thank you for your generosity. The collection raised over £200 for HCCN (Hunts Community Cancer Network) and St. Mary’s church.

It is a real privilege to be Mayor of Godmanchester and to see our community come together like this. It reminded me that what makes our town so special is its people and the care we show for one another.

My heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended, took part and helped organise such a joyous occasion.

As the Town Council’s Events & Tourism Officer, I’m so lucky that promoting our beautiful Town is part of my job.

Each week, on my way to the office I take a walk along the river, starting at the Mill Yard Steps. I have now been doing this walk weekly since I joined the Town Council last October. I started taking pictures and thought it would be lovely to capture how this familiar view changes throughout the year.

This video is the result, a year of photographs showing the changing seasons, floods, duckweed and plenty of new growth.

That riverside walk always brings a little joy to my day, and I hope these photos bring some to yours too. We’re so lucky to call Godmanchester home.
