What makes a Friday truly special, is when you receive an email with some really kind words, thanking you for the service you provide. 🥰

Received this testimonial from a client I have been working with recently. They had spent many years working within the financial services sector, took redundancy and was looking to transition into the heritage, culture and arts sector.

I supported them with an hour long exploration call, discussing personality profiling, transferable skills and career highlights and achievements. During these calls I listen to the individual and build up a picture of their aspirations and goals. This client's CV wasn't getting shortlisted as like many CVs, it didn't 'sell' the individual's strengths (as let's face it we all struggle a little with this!) 🥹

We set some homework and I created a new CV, focusing on skills and coaching my client on how to tailor this to highlight only relevant information for every job role applied for.

Loved working with this client, and I am confident she has the tools now to move forward with her career aspirations. 👏

Why Are Candidates Ghosting Employers? Let's Talk About It. 👻

In recent years, we've seen a surprising trend: candidates "ghosting" employers—going silent during or after the interview process. It's frustrating for companies and unsettling for hiring managers, but have we considered why it might be happening? 🤔

At its core, ghosting can signal a disconnect. Perhaps it’s a candidate feeling overwhelmed, disheartened by a lack of transparency, or even influenced by past poor experiences with unresponsive employers.

👉 Expectation vs. Reality: With job descriptions not always matching up with the actual role or company culture, candidates may second-guess their fit.

👉 Communication & Feedback: Just like employers appreciate proactive communication, so do candidates. Many report they feel “left hanging” after initial engagement, unsure of where they stand. This uncertainty may lead them to opt-out quietly rather than face a potentially uncomfortable conversation.

👉 Respect for Time: If the hiring process drags on or feels impersonal, candidates can perceive it as a lack of respect for their time. In a competitive market, they may pivot toward opportunities where they feel valued and respected.

2. Can I describe my skills, interests, and values?

3. Do I know the kind of work benefits I would like?

4. Can I explain what makes the kind of work I want, right for me?

If you did not answer YES, to all the questions, then creating a mind map exercise like the one below, might be a good exercise for you to do.

Remember applying the 80/20 rule, you will reap rewards. This means only applying for roles you have more than 80% of the criteria the job advert is requesting. This will see you achieve a higher success rate to be invited to interview.
