Children should never be taught to say “sorry” just to end a situation.
A meaningful apology comes from understanding, reflection, and sincerity.
When a child is only told to apologise, they may learn the words but not the value behind them. Real character development begins when children understand why their actions matter and how their behaviour can affect others emotionally.
Instead of simply saying:
“Say sorry.”
We should help children think:
• What did I do wrong?
• How did my actions affect someone else?
• How can I make things right?
• How can I improve next time?
This builds emotional intelligence, accountability, empathy, and self-awareness — qualities that benefit children throughout their lives, relationships, and future communities.
As Muslims, we are taught that sincerity matters more than appearances. Islam encourages honesty, humility, reflection, and taking responsibility for our mistakes.

A sincere apology is not weakness. It is a sign of maturity, strength, and good character.
