🚛 DPD Drivers — Daily Van Checks Are a Legal Must, Not Just a Good Habit
Every time you get behind the wheel of a 3.5t van, you’re not just starting a delivery route — you’re taking legal responsibility for a heavy vehicle on public roads.
Under the Road Traffic Act 1988, the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, and DVSA guidance, all commercial drivers must ensure their vehicle is safe, roadworthy, and defect-free before driving.
The DVSA and police can inspect your van at any time. Failure to comply can lead to:
• Fixed penalty fines up to £2,500
• 3 penalty points or more on your licence
• Vehicle prohibition notices (taking you off the road immediately)
• Potential prosecution and impact on your operator licence

📝 If You Find a Defect
• Record it immediately — written or digital defect report
• Report to management — van must not be used until repaired if it’s unsafe
• Never assume “it’s fine for today” — you are legally responsible while driving
