What would you tell your 16-year-old self about your career?

We put the question to Chels - and her answer is worth a watch.

There’s something about working in education that shifts your perspective. The roles mean something different. And for a lot of people, it’s where they actually want to be.

If you’re in IT, MIS, Data, Finance or Exams and you’ve been thinking about a move into schools - we’re actively briefing roles right now for September.

No hard sell. Just a conversation.

“Grades don’t really define you.”

We were on the streets of Bristol asking the public what they wish they’d known when leaving school. Tommy’s answer hits different.

He’s an animator now. Film studies, creative writing, art - all of it was practice for what he actually wanted to do. But here’s what stuck with him: it wasn’t the grades. It was the pressure.

“The pressure of expectation is actually really the worst thing.”

If you’re sitting exams right now, this one’s for you. If you’re hiring in schools, this matters too. Because the people who thrive in your teams are the ones who’ve learned to do the work they actually care about, not chase someone else’s expectation.

That’s who we place. People who know what they want and aren’t defined by a single result.

We’re WeDoData. We hire IT, Data, MIS, Finance and Exams professionals into schools, MATs and FE colleges.

If you’re in one of those roles, or hiring for them, get in touch.

Fresh air, dog walks, and a round of golf. Dan’s recipe for switching off. 🐶⛳

We’re big believers that the people behind the work matter just as much as the work itself. Dan loves exploring what’s on the doorstep here in Bristol - from the Cotswolds to the Mendips - and he’ll tell you it does wonders for the mind.

Looking after yourself outside of work isn’t a luxury. It’s what makes you better at everything inside it.

We’re a small team that puts people first - candidates, clients, and each other. If that sounds like the kind of agency you’d want in your corner, let’s have a chat.

Most job descriptions for Exams Officer roles capture about 40% of the actual job.

The other 60%? It looks completely different depending on when in the year you're reading it.

We see schools and colleges post Exams Officer roles in February using a January job spec - and then wonder why the people they hired don't make it past July.

This carousel breaks down what the role actually involves across the full year - in-season vs out-of-season - covering responsibilities, stakeholders, systems, hours, and what burnout tends to look like in each phase.

The short version: if you want to hire someone who's still with you next May, write the July version of the job spec. Not the January one.

If you're hiring for an Exams Officer role in your college or school, we're happy to have a conversation about what the role really looks like across the year - not just the version you're currently hiring against.

No hard sell. Just honest, straight-talking recruitment.

👇 Have a look through the carousel and let us know what you think in the comments.

Exam season is kicking off. For anyone working in schools right now, you don’t need us to tell you that.

Jean’s approach? Running two or three times a week and making sure the evenings slow down with a good book. Nothing revolutionary - but when those habits slip, everything else feels it.

The people we place in schools are living that same pressure. Exams officers, MIS leads, IT staff - they’re carrying a lot right now. The best ones know how to look after themselves so they can keep showing up for the teams around them.

It’s one of the things Jean looks for when he’s getting to know candidates. Not just the technical fit - the person behind it.

Take care of yourselves out there. And if you’re thinking about what’s next once the dust settles, Jean’s always happy to have a no-pressure chat. Drop us a DM. 🤝

Your CV tells us what you’ve done. These five questions tell us who you are and what you actually need.

Jay asks every candidate:
1. What do you want from your next role that you’re not getting now?
2. Just as importantly - what don’t you want?
3. What type of manager gets the best out of you?
4. What team environment do you thrive in?
5. What tough challenges have you recently overcome, and what skills are you working on?

It’s not about ticking boxes. It’s about understanding motivation, fit, and whether this move actually makes sense for you.

Person-centred recruitment starts with better questions.

If you’re exploring your next move in education data, MIS, or IT – let’s talk. No hard sell, just honest conversation about what you’re really looking for.

The skills gap is real, and it’s not where you think.

Dan breaks down what we’re actually seeing in demand right now - not generic job board stuff, but the technical expertise schools and colleges are struggling to fill:

Further Education & Training Providers:
Compliance expertise. ILR, funding, audits. The detail-oriented work that keeps everything above board.

Secondary Schools:
Data-driven decision making is the priority. Schools are migrating to cloud-based MIS systems (Bromcom, Arbor), and they need people who can handle the transition and make sense of reporting tools like Power BI.

These aren’t nice-to-haves. They’re mission-critical roles that often sit vacant for months because most recruiters don’t understand the sector well enough to match the right person to the right context.

We do. Let’s talk.
