World Environment Day 🌍

World Environment Day is a time to raise global awareness and inspire action to protect our environment, something ABP is proud to champion every day.

The landscape around us enables our farmers to produce high-quality food, whilst also caring for the environment that supports it. Farmers play a vital role as environmental stewards, and our demonstration farm brings this commitment to life in a practical and meaningful way. 🌱

Over the past few months, we’ve introduced a range of initiatives to enhance biodiversity on farm. These include bioacoustic monitoring trials, and planting over 400 metres of new hedgerows to link existing habitats, creating a biodiversity corridor.

The farm also highlights the value of livestock within a mixed farming system. Grazing animals naturally return organic matter to the soil, improving soil health, boosting plant productivity, and supporting microbial activity. In addition, more than 20 hectares of herbal leys have been established to improve soil structure, encourage nitrogen fixation, and provide a diverse, nutritious forage for our cattle. The farm team is also beginning to explore further opportunities to enhance the ecological health of on-site woodlands and ponds. πŸ„

Together, these efforts demonstrate how efficient food production can work hand-in-hand with sustainable and environmentally responsible farming practices.

It has been great to welcome members of the NFU Northern Regional Board, alongside fellow farmers to visit our UK Demonstration farm!

It was a valuable opportunity to showcase our work on-farm, share practical insights, and have open discussions around the challenges and opportunities currently facing the agricultural industry. From productivity and sustainability to policy and future resilience, these conversations are more important than ever.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to visit and contribute to such constructive discussions, and to the farm team for hosting a fantastic visit and a delicious lunch!

Juicy homemade lamb koftas, fresh herbs, and a zesty lemon kick πŸ”₯🌿
Grilled to perfection and wrapped in warm flatbread with crisp salad, creamy yogurt & a fresh Greek side...the ultimate flavour-packed bite 😍
Who’s trying this one at home?

Ingredients:
For the Koftas:
500g lamb mince
1 small red onion, peeled and finely chopped
2 tbsp freshly chopped parsley
2 tbsp freshly chopped mint
Grated zest and juice of Β½ lemon
1 tsp dried oregano
Pinch ground coriander
To Serve:
4 flatbreads
Salad leaves
Plain yogurt
Greek salad

Method:
Mix and season all ingredients, then shape into 6 koftas around skewers. Chill for 20 mins.
Grill or BBQ for 6–8 mins each side until cooked through.
Serve in flatbread with salad, yogurt and Greek salad.
