The Abandoned Soldier Statue

The Abandoned Soldier Statue The official voice of The Abandoned Soldier Statue Contributions and purchases will go towards commissioning a permanent bronze statue of The Abandoned Soldier.

The objective is to cast The Abandoned Soldier (TAS) in bronze and find a permanent home where veterans and the public can honour those who have valiantly fought for their country and continue to live with the effects of war. Once The Abandoned Soldier Project reaches a target figure of £100,000 plus installation costs, monies will then be devoted to any possible up keep of the sculpture and maint

aining TAS as a rallying point, sign posting veterans in need to relevant charities for help and support. If funds exceed these costs we would disburse monies through an independent supervisory committee composed of ex-Service and ex-MoD personnel to charities supported by TAS. We also hope in this process The Abandoned Soldier can raise further awareness for those suffering from PTSD and Combat Trauma.

If you want to see TAS he has currently found a home at Cardiff Castle. One day we hope enough money can be raised for TAS to be cast in bronze and find a permanent home where veteran/s and the public can honour those who have valiantly fought for their country and continue to live with the effects of war

Below is footage from the start of his journey, there may yet be a long way to go before he achieves his ultimate goal and finds a home. So your support and getting the word out there is very much appreciated.

There are those that seem to think TAS is distasteful and abhorrent, repugnant and repulsive, disgusting and objectionable. That is why he is here, for those that think that way. Superlatives created by negativity. The statue was created to aid those who seek help, he is moulded and honed in the image of a living survivor, he is the representation of a millennia of human beings. To dismiss him is to dismiss everything that is 'Great' about this Country. To dismiss him is to deny the truth. To dismiss him without reason is as inhumane as taking armies to War with 'No good Reason'. He looks for those who cannot to see, he stands for those who cannot walk, he listens to those who want to tell. He is now, he is the past, is he the future?

While other badly wounded ex-servicemen and women have been heroically walking to the North Pole, climbing Everest or rowing the Atlantic, the budding stars of Bravo 22 Company have stepped even further out of their comfort zones - into the acting world - to prove there is life after devastating injuries.

A new play, written for them by Owen Sheers from their own recollections, tells their often dark, but ultimately uplifting, personal story of service, injury and the long hard road to rehabilitation, via morphine-induced hallucinations and agonising physio.
