Sometimes the right opportunity starts with a simple hello, and Debbie's story is a perfect example of that!
A little while ago, Debbie popped into our office to see if we could help her find a new job.
She was looking for something in commercial office work or customer service, so we had a chat, got to know her, talked about her experience and what she was hoping to find.
The only problem was, we didn't have anything suitable for her at the time.
But just a day later, one of our new clients picked up the phone looking for a Customer Service Advisor.
And guess who was the first person that came to mind?
DEBBIE!
Fast forward to now, and Debbie has officially gone permanent with that client!
And while we're absolutely chuffed for her, there's something we'd love other job seekers to take away from her story.
Your job search doesn't always have to happen from behind a screen!
We're so used to scrolling through Indeed, uploading CVs, filling in application forms and waiting for somebody to get back to us that sometimes we forget there's another way.
Get yourself out there!
Walk down your local high street, pop into a recruitment agency, introduce yourself and have a conversation about what you're looking for.
Meeting someone face-to-face, you're no longer a name on a CV, or a voice on the other end of the phone.
You're a person we've met, spoke to and got to know. We can put a face to name, understand what you're looking for and remember the conversation when we're speaking to our clients.
Just like what happened with Debbie.
Now, we're not saying everyone who walks through our doors will walk straight back out with a job offer. Debbie certainly didn't that day!
So if you're at home applying for job after job and wondering what else you could be doing, maybe it's time to step away from the screen.
Meet people. Have conversations. Put yourself out there.
You never know who might remember you when the right opportunity comes along.
