Your expertise with the children is clear - that’s your area. But taking an international nanny role also means navigating everything that comes around the job, particularly if it’s your first overseas placement.

Before you get on that plane, make sure you understand what you’re actually agreeing to: salary, working hours, days off, accommodation, travel expectations, visas and insurance.

And don’t forget the conversation nobody really wants to have at the beginning: what happens if the placement doesn’t work out? What’s the notice period? What happens with your accommodation? Who covers your return travel?

These aren’t negative questions. They’re sensible ones - and it’s far better for both nanny and family to have them discussed before the placement begins than after a misunderstanding.

You know how to do your job. Make sure you know the terms you’re doing it under, too. ✈️
