Being unemployed is practically stressful enough WITHOUT feeling like you have to be embarrassed about it too. Yes, there is a real financial side to being unemployed, and it can be existential. But why add all the social pressure on top of that? 🫠

We believe there should be no shame in being unemployed. Full stop. End of story 🙅‍♀️

Every month we talk to more than 500 people, and we’ve learned that unemployment looks completely different for everyone. For some it’s the courageous leap into freelancing, and for others it’s upskilling after time away from work due to illness. Sometimes it’s someone finding their professional self again after raising kids. For others it’s an involuntary layoff in tech. Sometimes it really is a complete change of industry.

Whatever it looks like for you, it’s never something to be ashamed of. That’s exactly why we LOVED this t shirt ❤️ shout out to whose work we discovered and immediately loved!

Germany offers a surprising amount of support for jobseekers. From ALG I (unemployment benefits) to funded retraining and career coaching, unemployment here can give you something that’s pretty hard to find when you’re still working 40 hours a week: actual time and support to figure out what it is that you want to do next 🤔

1. The people who come are genuinely SO brilliant
2. People are far more willing to help strangers than you’d expect - whether that’s sharing contacts, job leads or recommendations
3. Not serving alcohol has never been an issue 🤷‍♀️ good conversation doesn’t need it (and we have a pretty great iced tea selection in the office)
4. Dogs are excellent networkers. Your canine companions are always welcome!
5. We leave every meetup feeling hopeful about the future and the people we met
