Facing global warming and an impending energy crisis, global awareness of the need to transfer to a low-carbon economy to tackle climate change is higher than ever before.
The Green Market, or the market for environmental products and services, is one of the world’s fastest growing sectors and one of the most crucial for our common well-being. In China’s 12th five-year (2011-2015), the nation’s most significant economy policy document, energy-saving and environmental protection were highlighted as one of seven “Strategic Emerging Industries”. By 2020 China has committed to reduce carbon emissions intensity by as much as 40%-45% from 2005 levels, and reliance on coal from 74% to 54% of its energy production mix. These objectives will generate positive and far-reaching effects promoting green and low-carbon employment, alongside encouraging the growth of related industries.
China Energy Trip aims to bring together young people who are interested in energy, green development and international cooperation. Through this journey, we intend to provide a suitable platform for ideas exchange between scholars and young professionals from different countries, in order to foster mutual understanding and develop open dialogues on both climate change and energy issues in China. So far, we have successfully held four sessions of China Energy Trip, welcoming up to 80 students from top universities such as MIT, Harvard, Oxford.
China Energy Trip was first lanched by the Western China Clean Energy Collaborative (WCCEC) of Xi'an Jiaotong
University (XJTU) in 2010. Now it is branded under Youth Lead, which is a leadership platform designed to offer the
young generation the opportunity to shape the world for the
better. We believe by improving their understanding, raising
their ambition and strengthening their capability would we be able to achieve our vision of a low carbon world of opportunity and prosperity for youths and by youths. We make it happen through “Offering Courses”, “Presenting Competitions”, “Organizing Trips”, “Incubate Start-ups”, and “Providing Networking”. We are looking forward to a lively exchange of ideas between future leaders, enhancing mutual understanding and contributing to solving global climate and energy issues.
In 2014, we will offer three modules for participants. Module A (June 18th - July 1st, 2014, Beijing) provides participants a great opportunity to be able to visit local industries, prestigious universities, successful companies and famous tour sites including the Forbidden City, Jingshan Park, and the Great Wall..
