Voices of Akum sons and daughters to their Mothers — Mother's Day 2026

Today, a few sons and daughters of Akum did something simple and something profound: they said their mother's name, in our dialect, and told her why she matters.

Not many videos came in, but the ones that did carried the weight of a thousand unspoken words. A name. A memory. A thank you that was long overdue.

That is what this tribute was always about. Not numbers. Not a stage. Just a child, a voice, and a mother who deserved to hear it.

To every mother in Akum, the ones who were named today, and the ones still waiting to be, you are seen. You are the reason we still know who we are.

To those who sent in their videos: thank you for your courage. Speaking love out loud, in the language your mother gave you, is no small thing.

And to those who wanted to but didn't make it in time, it is never too late to say "Mama, I see you."

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers of Akum.
With love and deep respect,
Miss Akum 2026

A call for short videos (Faces of Akum children to their mothers)

Dear Sons and Daughters of Akum,

As Mother’s Day approaches, I invite you to join me, Miss Akum 2026, in honoring the mothers who raised us and kept our culture alive.

I am creating a tribute video titled “Voices of Akum Children to Their Mothers.” This time, I want it to be personal.

How to participate:
1. Record a 15–20 seconds video, speaking in Akum dialect.

2. Speak about _your own mother_ by name. Start with “Mama...]…” and share one thing you love, admire, or thank her for.
Example: “Mama Regina Metang ma gha miya ni ndum wã bãh o zih nã ni mbomalãh.”

3. Send the video to me on WhatsApp at 678795910 on or before Saturday by midday.

Please speak about your own mother Or the mother who raised you, not mothers generally. Hearing her name and your words will make this tribute unforgettable for her.

Thank you for keeping the Akum spirit alive.

With respect and pride,
Miss Akum 2026🥰

Hello everyone, this is Miss Akum ❤️

I’m excited to share that I emerged as the WINNER of the “Speak Your Mother Tongue” competition launched for Akum youths!

The challenge: Speak pure Akum dialect for 10 minutes straight no foreign words mixed in. We each sent a voice notes to the jury for validation, and I’m grateful to say mine came out on top.

This competition wasn’t just about winning. It was about reminding us Akum youths of the beauty and power in our mother tongue. Our language carries our history, our stories, and our identity. If we don’t speak it, who will?

To every Akum son and daughter: let’s be proud of our language. Let’s speak it at home, teach it to our kids, and use it boldly. Our dialect is not “local” — it’s royal.

Big thanks to the organizers and the jury for creating this platform. And to all the youths who participated ..we are ALL winners because we chose to honor our roots.

Who’s ready for the next challenge? 🔥

Empowering lives, one step at a time.

On March 8th 2026, Miss Akum 2026, Fru Sonia, together with the first and second runner up had the profound honor of spending International Women's Day exactly where it matters most with the widows of Akum.

Together, we covered:
💚 Healthcare & self-awareness
🥗 Nutrition guidance
💰 Financial literacy
🍚 And we closed the day by sharing foodstuffs because love is also practical.

To every single person who contributed financially or morally —thank you. Your generosity made these women feel seen, valued, and uplifted. May God richly reward your giving hearts. 🙏🏾

This is only the beginning. More projects are coming for this community we love so dearly. Stay with us. 💛

Long live Akum Village!

Empowering Voices, Building Networks

On January 17th , miss Akum participated in a powerful workshop hosted by Madam Nicoline Wazeh, CEO and founder of PaWED-IATC at MUNA Foundation, Yaoundé marking 25 years of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security in Cameroon.

Together they validated nationwide survey findings and formulated actionable recommendations for peacebuilding and community development. But beyond the work itself, this experience was invaluable for networking with changemakers, advocates, and fellow young women leaders.

Why does this matter to Akum?

These connections don't stay in the room they translate into partnerships, mentorship, and opportunities that directly benefit our community. When young women are invited to decision-making tables, we bring perspectives and commitment to ensuring girls in our communities have pathways to leadership.

Networking at events like this helps our Miss Fru Sonia bring back resources, knowledge, and partnerships that strengthen what we're building at home. Our local work connects to larger movements for peace and equality.

Thank you, PaWED-IATC, for creating space for young women's leadership. Every girl in Akum deserves to know her voice can shape the future. ✊🏾
