Happy Women’s Day.

We salute all women around the world and in particular the one from Djiminikro in Côte d’Ivoire that are sharing Leonatura’s vision. For us, women’s empowerment starts with securing financial independence through literacy and jobs.

The women from this picture are agroecological farmers, which means that have been trained to practice an agriculture that does not harm the environment (no pesticides or fertilizer whatsoever) and are involved in agroforestry farming at the heart of cacao farms. The “invisible” Women in the cacao farms do 70% of the job but only receive an insignificant income.

We believe that to reverse this situation we need to promote gender equality but most importantly we need to give them the tools to harvest, process locally, and trade fairly.

We will not let them down! Leonatura

Heureuse Journée de la Femme

Nous saluons toutes les femmes du monde et en particulier celles de Djiminikro en Côte d'Ivoire qui partagent la vision de Leonatura. Pour nous, l'autonomisation des femmes commence par la garantie de l'indépendance financière grâce à l'alphabétisation et à l'emploi.

Les femmes sur cette photo sont des productrices agroécologistes, cela signifie que ces femmes ont été formées pour pratiquer une agriculture qui respecte l'environnement (pas de pesticides ni d'engrais) et qu'elles sont impliquées dans l'agroforesterie au cœur des plantations de cacao. Les femmes "invisibles" des plantations de cacao effectuent 70% des activités mais ne sont pas rémunérées à leur juste valeur.

Nous croyons que pour inverser cette situation, il est nécessaire de promouvoir la parité hommes-femmes, mais surtout de leur donner les moyens de faire leur récolte, de la transformer au niveau local et de la commercialiser équitablement.

Together with the German work minister Hubertus Heil, a team from the European Union, as well as representatives from several other organizations, the development minister Svenja Schulze paid a visit to our partner cooperative UIREC in San Pedro.
A tour of the cocoa plantation was conducted by our partner cooperative, which has been proudly transitioning to organic farming for several years.
