We were honoured to attend the Lead the Way Gala with CMHA York Region & South Simcoe - an inspiring evening in support of the York Region Mental Health Community Care Centre (The Centre), a first-of-its-kind, 24/7 hub for mental health and addictions care in our community.

This evening was about more than gathering. It was about the impact we can create together.

Taking place during Mental Health Awareness Month, the event highlighted the importance of building stronger, more connected support systems for individuals and families.
When people feel supported, they are better able to take steps forward with confidence, stability, and hope.

We’re proud to be part of a community that continues to make that possible.

Creating mentally healthy workplaces doesn’t require complicated solutions - just a focus on what truly helps people.

Research shows that:
• Support from co-workers (65%) and managers (59%) has the strongest positive impact on mental health - more than senior leadership or HR (MHRC, 2025)
• Time-based supports like paid time off (69%), personal days (58%), and flexible schedules (52%) are the most effective (MHRC, 2025)
• 43% of employees with mental health-related disabilities needed workplace accommodations, yet 35% of those needs went unmet (Statistics Canada, 2024)

The encouraging part? Most accommodations are simple and low-cost - things like flexibility, breaks, and adjustments to workload or environment (Martin & McKee, 2015).

Supporting mental health is less about big programs and more about everyday actions, flexibility, and strong human connection.

We’re proud to be sponsoring the CMHA Lead the Way Gala!

This event brings people together to support stronger, more accessible mental health care in our communities - something that’s especially meaningful as we recognize Mental Health Awareness Month.

It’s a cause that closely aligns with the work we do every day of supporting individuals as they build confidence, overcome barriers, and move forward.

Grateful to be part of a community that continues to show up for one another in such important ways.

In York Region this week, Ontario Works caseworkers, Employment Ontario service providers, MLITSD representatives, and the WCG team came together for a collaborative planning session focused on strengthening how we work together.

A key theme throughout the day was connection - how we align our services, support smoother transitions into employment programs, and ensure clients feel supported every step of the way.

As part of WCG’s Social Assistance engagement work, this session created space to share insights, learn from one another, and co-create solutions that improve service coordination across the region.

Together, we reflected on progress, identified opportunities for improvement, and committed to practical next steps that will enhance both client experiences and outcomes.

Grateful for the strong partnership and shared commitment across York Region. Excited to keep this important work moving forward.

This week, we brought together Ontario Works caseworkers from Peel Region, Employment Ontario service providers, MLITSD representatives, and the WCG team for a meaningful planning session focused on the year ahead.

We grounded our conversations in what matters most - supporting the people we serve.

Through WCG’s Social Assistance engagement work, these moments are so important. They help strengthen our relationships with municipal partners, support better system planning, and create more seamless pathways for clients moving into employment services.

Together, we reflected on what’s working, had open conversations about where we can do better, and aligned on practical steps to improve how our services connect - so clients have better experiences and outcomes.

Grateful for the collaboration, honesty, and shared leadership in the room.

Looking forward to continuing this important work together.
