That's why we created the Leadership Development Program - Elevate.

Through five modules focused on mindset, service delivery, performance, team leadership, and sustaining momentum, senior leaders have come together to build on the strengths they already bring to their roles.

International Youth Day is about young people shaping their futures, and Xavier is doing exactly that.

After being diagnosed with ADHD, autism, and reading and writing disabilities at 16, figuring out what came next wasn't always straightforward. But with support, Xavier started building "steps upon steps" toward the future he wanted.

Now, he's thinking even bigger: one day opening his own restaurant and mentoring the next generation of professional cooks.

That's what shaping the future can look like - finding your strengths, building on them and creating a path that's your own.

We have incredible community partners and service providers across our Employment Ontario network who help ensure individuals can access the support they need, where and when they need it most.

Last week, Salima, our Senior Manager of Municipal Partnerships and Kadaesha and Chantel from our Community Integration Team partnered with Homes First Society's Metro Shelter to host an information session and service marketplace for refugee claimants. After an introduction to Integrated Employment Services, attendees had the opportunity to meet directly with five community organizations and learn more about the employment, training, and support services available to them.

Thank you to March of Dimes Canada, Learning Disabilities Association of Toronto District, Toronto Skills and Employment Connections (TSEC), Operation Springboard, and Tropicana Community Services for joining us and sharing your expertise.

Many of the individuals who attended the event are navigating the challenges of building a new life in Canada while working toward their employment goals. Our WCG team and the participating service providers were honoured to have this opportunity to connect with clients one-on-one, helping to create opportunities, inspire confidence, and bring valuable services directly to those who need them most.

Together, we're helping make employment services more accessible and creating stronger pathways to employment for newcomers and refugee claimants across our communities.

Starting over in a new country isn't easy.

When Mubeen came to Canada, she was ready to work but struggled to find opportunities. Without Canadian experience or references, every application felt like another closed door. Like many newcomers, she knew what she was capable of, but needed someone to believe in her and help her take the next step.

Through Employment Ontario Peel Region, Mubeen found more than job search support. She found people who listened, understood her challenges, and helped her rebuild her confidence. Today, she's working, supporting her family, and enjoying the peace of mind that comes with financial stability and a renewed sense of purpose.

Sometimes the best conversations happen over the things we all have in common.

"It was my first time at North York Harvest’s Oriole Community Centre Food Space, and it was great meeting people from the community," says Ryan from our Community Integration Services team. "We talked about everything from life and love to cats and employment. Being able to share my own lived experience helped create genuine connections."

Ryan recently visited the Food Space to introduce Integrated Employment Services and connect with local residents. We're looking forward to making these weekly visits a regular part of building relationships, learning from the community, and supporting fellow Canadians on their employment journeys.

Young people aren’t just preparing for the future of work. They’ll help shape it.

But as the world of work changes, the skills needed to succeed are changing too. According to the United Nations, 1 in 5 people aged 15-34 remain disconnected from formal pathways to skills development, while 40% of today’s skillsets no longer match the needs of the job market.

On World Youth Skills Day, we’re reminded that access to skills, training and opportunity matters. Whether it’s building technical knowledge, digital confidence or interpersonal skills, young people need opportunities to learn, adapt and grow.

At WCG Services, we're proud to support youth employment programs across Canada, helping young people build skills, gain confidence, and connect with opportunities that can shape their future.

Building employment services that truly reflect the people they support starts with listening - with care, humility, and respect.

Every Indigenous community carries its own knowledge, experiences, and ways of working. Taking time to understand this is where stronger relationships begin.

As Jason Hartung, WCG Indigenous Relationship Lead, shares: “Through ongoing conversations with Indigenous organizations, frontline workers, Elders, and community members, we learn where barriers exist and where we can adapt our approach.”
These conversations shape more responsive and respectful services, grounded in community realities.

Building on this, Amber Caribou, also a WCG Indigenous Relationship Lead, says: “Take time to learn and reflect. Attend powwows and gatherings, support Indigenous communities, and commit to ongoing learning - then carry that understanding into action.”

During National Indigenous History Month, these reflections remind us that listening is not a one-time act - it’s something we continue, with intention, every day.
