The evening brought together Ottawa’s business and HR community to celebrate the Top 20 Best Places to Work, while also hearing fresh ideas from speakers challenging us to think differently about the future of work.

Last week our team had the opportunity to attend the Indigenous Forestry Conference in Prince George, BC.

It was a valuable few days of connecting with people from across the country and hearing perspectives on the future of forest stewardship, grounded in Indigenous values, knowledge and leadership.

Being part of these conversations gave us new insights into the opportunities ahead and how WCG can continue to listen, learn and support communities.

As we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we reflect on the truths of our shared history and the ongoing work of reconciliation.

Earlier this week, WCG staff, Service Provider partners, and ministry colleagues came together to participate in a Blanket Exercise facilitated by the Waaban Nang . The experience offered an opportunity to learn about Indigenous histories and experiences, as well as the lasting impacts of colonization that continue to be felt today.

We are grateful to the Waaban Nang Collective for guiding this learning experience and to everyone who participated and contributed to this important conversation. 🧡

We’re excited to be part of the 2026 WorkFirst Alberta Summit!

Taking place at the Edmonton EXPO Centre, the Summit brings together employers, employment service providers, industry leaders, community organizations and partners from across Alberta to connect, share ideas and explore what’s next for Alberta’s workforce.

As we head into Day 2, keep an eye out for Jordan and Natashya from our WorkConnect team. They’re looking forward to meeting new people, exchanging ideas and having some great conversations about building stronger, more inclusive employment opportunities across the province.

From coast to coast, we're connecting people, employers and communities through the power of work.

In recent weeks, our teams have been working alongside employers, job seekers, community organizations, and partners across Canada.

From conference halls and employer roundtables to community BBQs and job fairs, we've been creating opportunities to build relationships and strengthen communities.

In Ontario, we've been representing WCG at OEMC, sharing Integrated Employment Services with members of the African-Canadian Collective, celebrating community with Indigenous partners at the Thunderbird Lodge BBQ, and bringing together employers and workforce leaders through Employer Engagement Working Groups.

In British Columbia, we've been supporting hiring events in Kelowna, partnering with Le Cercle des Canadiens Français de Prince George, and celebrating the communities we serve through Community Appreciation BBQs in Revelstoke, Salmon Arm and Sicamous. While each event is unique, they all reflect the same commitment to strong partnerships, meaningful work, and thriving communities.

We're honoured to receive the Partner in Skills Development Award from ReuseTechBC. This recognition celebrates our continued support of their mission to make affordable technology more accessible to Canadians while contributing to the circular economy through reuse.

By donating retired computers and distributing them back to our clients, we're helping provide individuals and communities with the tools they need to learn, work, and stay connected.

A heartfelt thank you to Reusetechbc for providing this valuable service to Canadians. Together, we're reducing e-waste, promoting sustainability, and helping bridge the digital divide.

That's why we created the Leadership Development Program - Elevate.

Through five modules focused on mindset, service delivery, performance, team leadership, and sustaining momentum, senior leaders have come together to build on the strengths they already bring to their roles.

International Youth Day is about young people shaping their futures, and Xavier is doing exactly that.

After being diagnosed with ADHD, autism, and reading and writing disabilities at 16, figuring out what came next wasn't always straightforward. But with support, Xavier started building "steps upon steps" toward the future he wanted.

Now, he's thinking even bigger: one day opening his own restaurant and mentoring the next generation of professional cooks.

That's what shaping the future can look like - finding your strengths, building on them and creating a path that's your own.

We have incredible community partners and service providers across our Employment Ontario network who help ensure individuals can access the support they need, where and when they need it most.

Last week, Salima, our Senior Manager of Municipal Partnerships and Kadaesha and Chantel from our Community Integration Team partnered with Homes First Society's Metro Shelter to host an information session and service marketplace for refugee claimants. After an introduction to Integrated Employment Services, attendees had the opportunity to meet directly with five community organizations and learn more about the employment, training, and support services available to them.

Thank you to March of Dimes Canada, Learning Disabilities Association of Toronto District, Toronto Skills and Employment Connections (TSEC), Operation Springboard, and Tropicana Community Services for joining us and sharing your expertise.

Many of the individuals who attended the event are navigating the challenges of building a new life in Canada while working toward their employment goals. Our WCG team and the participating service providers were honoured to have this opportunity to connect with clients one-on-one, helping to create opportunities, inspire confidence, and bring valuable services directly to those who need them most.

Together, we're helping make employment services more accessible and creating stronger pathways to employment for newcomers and refugee claimants across our communities.

Starting over in a new country isn't easy.

When Mubeen came to Canada, she was ready to work but struggled to find opportunities. Without Canadian experience or references, every application felt like another closed door. Like many newcomers, she knew what she was capable of, but needed someone to believe in her and help her take the next step.

Through Employment Ontario Peel Region, Mubeen found more than job search support. She found people who listened, understood her challenges, and helped her rebuild her confidence. Today, she's working, supporting her family, and enjoying the peace of mind that comes with financial stability and a renewed sense of purpose.
