June marks National Indigenous History Month - a time to recognize and honour the histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.

This month invites all of us to reflect more deeply on the stories that shape this country, stories that long predate Confederation and continue to influence its present and future. It is a time to listen, to learn, and to acknowledge both the strength of Indigenous communities and the realities of our shared history.

Throughout the month, we are engaging with community events and cultural gatherings that celebrate Indigenous knowledge, traditions and lived experience. From Indigenous History Month kickoff at George Brown Polytechnic to upcoming events like the Na-Me-Res Powwow, Council Fire Powwow, and the Toronto City Hall Sunrise Ceremony on National Indigenous Peoples Day, these moments create opportunities to connect, reflect and learn.

Our commitment goes beyond recognition. It’s about continuing to learn from Indigenous voices, understanding the responsibility we each hold, and supporting ongoing efforts toward respect, relationships, and reconciliation.

A few full days at the National Supported Employment Conference - and a lot to reflect on.

One message that stuck: “Look for the helpers, and look out for the helpers.”
In this work, caring for each other is part of the work.

There was also a clear call to action - inclusion and accessibility need to be built in, not added on.

Grateful to CASE and ODEN for bringing people together from across the country to share, listen, and push this forward.

On Canadian Armed Forces Day (June 7), we honour the people behind the uniform – their stories, dedication, and the values they carry into every chapter of life.

For Melissa Landry, CD, CVRP, service has been a constant for nearly three decades. As a COATS (Cadet Organizations Administration and Training Service) Reservist, she remains actively connected to the Canadian Armed Forces while building a career with WCG rooted in supporting others.

Taking place June 9–11 in Ottawa, this national event brings together 400+ professionals, employers, educators, and community leaders to explore ways to advance inclusive employment for persons experiencing disability.

Hosted by CASE in partnership with CCRW and ODEN, this year’s theme -“From Insight to Action: Driving Equity in Employment”- focuses on turning ideas into impact.

We were honoured to attend the Lead the Way Gala with CMHA York Region & South Simcoe - an inspiring evening in support of the York Region Mental Health Community Care Centre (The Centre), a first-of-its-kind, 24/7 hub for mental health and addictions care in our community.

This evening was about more than gathering. It was about the impact we can create together.

Taking place during Mental Health Awareness Month, the event highlighted the importance of building stronger, more connected support systems for individuals and families.
When people feel supported, they are better able to take steps forward with confidence, stability, and hope.

We’re proud to be part of a community that continues to make that possible.

Creating mentally healthy workplaces doesn’t require complicated solutions - just a focus on what truly helps people.

Research shows that:
• Support from co-workers (65%) and managers (59%) has the strongest positive impact on mental health - more than senior leadership or HR (MHRC, 2025)
• Time-based supports like paid time off (69%), personal days (58%), and flexible schedules (52%) are the most effective (MHRC, 2025)
• 43% of employees with mental health-related disabilities needed workplace accommodations, yet 35% of those needs went unmet (Statistics Canada, 2024)

The encouraging part? Most accommodations are simple and low-cost - things like flexibility, breaks, and adjustments to workload or environment (Martin & McKee, 2015).

Supporting mental health is less about big programs and more about everyday actions, flexibility, and strong human connection.
