Migrante Ontario launches “Make a Claim Project”

Make a claim is a project by Migrante Ontario on protecting migrant workers from illegal and unscrupulous recruiters in the province of Ontario. The Make a Claim Project is a worker led campaign that features a research study, Know Your Rights workshops and informations on the Employment Protection for Foreign Nationals Act (EFPNA), legal action

s and a public campaign for the province of Ontario to adopt Manitoba’s Worker Recruitment, and Protection Act (WRAPA). Currently, WRAPA is considered as the best recruitment practice in Canada. Migrante is urging migrant workers especially those under the Temporary Workers Program such as caregivers and farm workers and undocumented workers to learn about their rights under EFPNA, and make a claim. Kagabi, nagtipon-tipon ang Migrante members and allies to learn about the importance of Zero Remittance Day.

Our discussions shared similar frustrations on how we work 2-3 jobs, only to see our hard earned money taken away through exuberant service fees and taxes that fill the pockets of the corrupt government officials. From abroad we watch our families struggle with expensive healthcare, unemployment, and a lack of public services that could support their wellbeing.

Toronto, let's come together to support Filipino communities in the Philippines who are still recovering from Typhoon Tino and Super Typhoon Uwan.

Kababayanihan, a fundraising concert, is happening on December 19, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Its OK Studios, 468 Queen St W, Toronto, ON M5V 2B2. All proceeds will go directly to relief and rebuilding efforts in the hardest-hit areas.

Kababayanihan blends three Filipino words: kababayan (fellow Filipinos), bayani (hero), and bayanihan (community solidarity and collective effort). The event celebrates community, solidarity, and the power of coming together to help those in need.

Expect live performances, local vendors, a silent auction, and more. Everyone is welcome, so invite your friends, your family, and anyone who wants to support this cause. You do not have to be Filipino to join or make a difference.

This holiday season, many families are still rebuilding their lives.

Now more than ever, they need our support.
