🏆 CHI MINO OZHITOOWIN CEO HONOURED WITH NADF EXCELLENCE IN LEADERSHIP AWARD!

A proud moment for Chi Mino Ozhitoowin as our Chief Executive Officer, Peter Collins, received the Excellence in Leadership Award at the 34th Annual Nishnawbe Aski Development Fund (NADF) Awards Gala on October 22 in Thunder Bay! 👏

An Anishinaabe leader from Fort William First Nation, he began his career on Council in 1986, followed by nearly 22 years as Chief and nine years as Northern Superior Regional Grand Chief.

Four decades of public service have brought significant accomplishments, including three historic land claim settlements for Fort William First Nation, representing nearly $275 million in compensation, along with provisions for the return and addition of reserve lands. Other milestones include helping establish the community's industrial park and sawmill partnership, creating employment and strengthening its economic foundation.

His contributions extend into health care, education, justice and family well-being, with a particular focus on culturally appropriate services for Elders and improved access to addictions treatment.

In major infrastructure, that experience helped advance First Nations equity ownership and participation through the East-West Tie Transmission Project and the Waasigan partnership with Hydro One, bringing greater involvement in business development, employment and decision-making.

Since joining Chi Mino Ozhitoowin as CEO in 2022, that vision has continued through workforce training, procurement, environmental stewardship, and long-term investments, including acquiring the former Riverview Raceway property for future Indigenous-led development.

💙 The NADF Excellence in Leadership Award recognizes a career shaped by meaningful accomplishments and a commitment to ensuring First Nations have a greater voice, ownership and influence over their economic future.

This honour joins several previous distinctions, including the 2019 Anishinabek Nation Heroes in Health Award, the 2024 Anishinabek Nation Lifetime Achievement Award and Confederation College's 2026 Community Partner of the Year Award.

It also follows CMO's receipt of the 2026 Indigenous Business Award at the CEN CAN Resource Expo Gala in September, presented by Mining Life & Exploration News and accepted on behalf of our seven First Nation owners.

On behalf of our Board of Directors and team, congratulations, Peter! Your accomplishments have made a lasting impact, and we are proud to celebrate this well-deserved honour.

Miigwetch to NADF, and congratulations to all of this year's award recipients! 🏆

The decisions being made today will shape the opportunities our next generations inherit.

Over the past two days, our Chief Executive Officer, Peter Collins, brought CMO’s perspective to ANEDO 2026 in Thunder Bay through keynote remarks and panel discussions with fellow First Nations leaders.

This year’s theme, “Unlocking Our Potential: Infrastructure, Investment & Innovation,” connects directly to our purpose as a company owned by seven First Nations: ensuring our people and businesses have meaningful opportunities to help shape development and share in its benefits.

Through the Waasigan Transmission Line, that means connecting training to employment, supporting First Nations businesses pursuing contracts, and building experience that opens doors long after construction is complete.

These conversations are an opportunity to share, what we can learn from other Nations, and strengthen First Nations leadership in the decisions affecting our lands, communities and economic futures.

Miigwetch to the Anishinabek Nation and everyone who contributed their knowledge and perspectives over the past two days. 🤝

Miigwetch to Fort William First Nation Chief Michele Solomon for recognizing our Chief Executive Officer, Peter Collins’ many years of service as Chief and his contributions to building stronger, more respectful economic partnerships for the community.

Peter brought that experience to the Anishinabek Nation Economic Development Opportunities (ANEDO) Forum today, delivering opening remarks and joining fellow First Nations leaders on the Economic Development Scan panel.

His commitment to advancing opportunities for our people continues through his leadership at Chi Mino Ozhitoowin. As a company owned by seven First Nations, our work through the Waasigan Transmission Line Project is rooted in our communities’ priorities and the benefits we can build together today and for the generations to come.

That means supporting our people in gaining skills and securing employment, helping First Nations businesses grow, and ensuring the experience gained today creates opportunities our communities can carry forward beyond construction.

“Our economic partnerships are growing and have become much more meaningful and respectful, and I attribute that to the work of former Chiefs like Peter Collins and the work that they’ve done to advance our community for so many years,” Fort William First Nation Chief Michele Solomon says during her opening keynote, welcoming participants to Fort William First Nation Territory, on Day 1 of the Anishinabek Nation Economic Development Opportunities (ANEDO) Forum.

Chi Mino Ozhitoowin Chief Executive Officer Peter Collins visited The Underground Gym & Youth Centre founder Peter Panetta on Tuesday morning to present $15,348.18 from the 2026 Healing Energy Golf Classic. 💙

Located in Thunder Bay, The Underground Gym provides children and youth with free meals and activities that encourage learning, creativity and healthy lifestyles. From boxing and fitness to music lessons, arts, tutoring and outdoor experiences, its programs give young people ways to explore their interests, develop skills and build confidence.

At the heart of the Gym is a commitment to self-confidence and self-respect. Peter and the people behind it put that commitment into practice by creating a welcoming environment where young people can participate, connect and discover their strengths.

This donation supports the Gym’s ongoing services, helping keep those experiences available without fees for the children and youth who attend.

Every golfer, sponsor, donor and volunteer who contributed to this year’s Healing Energy Golf Classic helped make this presentation possible. Your generosity reaches beyond a day on the course—it carries forward through organizations like The Underground Gym and the young lives they help shape.

Miigwetch, Peter and the Underground Gym team, for your dedication to our youth—and to our tournament supporters for making this contribution possible. 💙

We’ve shared the incredible results—now we’re sharing more of the people and moments behind them! 💚📸

These beautiful photos by Patrick Chondon Photography take us back to our September 25 Healing Energy Golf Tournament Beneficiary & Sponsor Recognition Luncheon, celebrating tremendous generosity and community impact.

With an almost sold-out tournament - this year’s event raised $46,044.54 in net proceeds—double last year’s total!

At the luncheon, we presented $15,348.18 each to:
💚 The Underground Gym
💚 Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access Centre
💚 Paawidigong First Nations Forum

These organizations care for people across our region every day. Supporting their efforts is what makes Healing Energy so meaningful: coming together, sharing what we can and helping one another thrive.

For Chi Mino Ozhitoowin, our relationships with Valard, Hydro One and GLP through the Waasigan Transmission Line extend beyond construction. Healing Energy brings those connections together in a way that gives back to the communities we are part of.

Miigwetch to presenting sponsor Halow, our sponsors, golfers, donors and everyone who helped make this such a HUGE success. These photos celebrate you!!

And there’s more to look forward to! ⛳
