We didn't expect this many people to talk about Beton Kemon when we launched it.

Three months ago, Beton Kemon was just a website we had put together around a fairly simple idea: salary information in Bangladesh shouldn't be this difficult to find.

Then the media picked it up.

Within a few days, we were seeing Beton Kemon being written about across different publications, with people discussing salary transparency, anonymous salary sharing and why something like this was needed in Bangladesh.

We've put together some of the coverage below.

For us, the media coverage was never really the end goal. What mattered was that the conversation started. Someone who had no idea what a certain role paid could now look it up. Someone preparing for an interview could get a little more context before walking into the room. Someone negotiating an offer could have an actual number in mind instead of guessing.

And thousands of people have since contributed their own salary information so that someone else can make a slightly better decision.

Three months in, we're still building.

And honestly, we're just getting started.

To everyone who covered Beton Kemon, wrote about it, shared it, contributed a salary, or simply told a friend about it, we just want to say - thank you.

We appreciate it more than you probably realise.

An intern earning 100 crore taka a month is the funniest thing anyone has tried to put on Beton Kemon. It was nowhere near the worst.

Someone filed an entry under Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) with the job title "Chadabaj (Gulistan)". Another put "N*de Artist" against BRAC. Two people typed their own mobile numbers into the job title box, on a platform that stores no IP, no email and no account precisely so that nobody can be traced.

None of it went public. Each one was stopped by a person manually reading the entry.

We have reviewed around 16 thousand submissions now, across roughly 2 thousand companies. About 10 thousand are accepted and live and more than 5 thousand were rejected. Most of those rejections are dull, duplicates mostly, and around 94% of them looked perfectly ordinary on the surface.

The couple of hundred that had to be rejected included three dozen salaries above 20 lakh a month, 17 of them at a crore or more. Another three dozen named an employer that does not exist: somebody's own name, a school grade, the phrase "private tuition".

We could have put an LLM in front of this, and it would mostly work. We already lean on a simple model to sort job titles into departments and to surface spam for a second look. However, a classifier that is right 99% of the time still waves through 160 rows out of 16 thousand.

Nearly all of those 160 it lets through might be harmless. But even one bad/malicious entry could lead to the platform losing all credibility.

So a person still opens every one of them, and will keep doing that until the cost of being wrong drops. If you have held a job in Bangladesh and have not added yours yet, please do! :D

How much can you expect to earn as an MTO in Bangladesh?

MTO programs are often considered one of the most attractive entry-level opportunities in Bangladesh. But salary-wise, how much can you actually expect?

We looked at salary data shared on Beton Kemon and calculated the median starting salary across four categories:

• MNC: ৳80,000
• NBFI: ৳75,500
• Bank: ৳62,500
• Local Companies: ৳30,000

The data covers 18 Banks, 15 MNCs, 6 NBFIs and 41 Local Companies.

We’re using the median instead of the average because it gives a better idea of the typical salary when there are unusually high or low salaries in the dataset.

These numbers are based on user-submitted salary data on Beton Kemon, so they should be taken as an indicative market insight, not a fixed salary benchmark.

Three months ago, we put Beton Kemon out into the world.

The idea wasn't new.

We had talked about the problem before. Salary information is one of those things people constantly want to know, but rarely have enough context to find out.

Glassdoor exists. People ask friends, seniors, colleagues, Reddit, Facebook groups, LinkedIn, you name it.

Something was missing.

**Convenience.**

Glassdoor requires you to sign up and upload your own salary. Reaching out to seniors or colleagues takes time and effort. Facebook groups and LinkedIn require you to make a post and hope someone responds.

But what if you could just visit a website, search for a company or role, and get the information you were looking for?

So we built Beton Kemon.

Three months later, more than 2M page views, with 8,000+ salary entries across 1,600+ companies.

And what's interesting isn't just the numbers.

It's what people are doing with the information.

Someone checked the salary before applying and saved themselves the time and effort of pursuing a role that didn't make sense for them.

Someone looked up the salary range for a role before negotiating. They walked into the conversation with actual market context, instead of having to rely on “as per company policy,” “as per industry standard,” or “our package is competitive.”

That's really what we wanted Beton Kemon to do.

Just give you a little more information before you make a decision.

For the last three months, we've mostly stayed quiet and focused on building.

Now we're finally starting to talk about Beton Kemon here too.
