Let's Circus supports circus outreach in Kenya via Sarakasi Trust

On a back street above an old waste site in Nairobi you will find the Sarakasi Dome. Once derelict and dilapidated, it is now the home of an increasingly visable community of professional acrobats, dancers, circus artists and musicians. This centre for circus supports thousands of artists every year and has been successful in takin

g this creative movement forward into the 21st century. From this hub radiates a network of projects that places circus in the lives of individuals and communities, from schools, hospitals and orphanages as well as into the wider cultural scene of a modern African city. When Let's Circus visited Kenya on it's Circus Safari in 2009, they found Sarakasi and developed a sister circus relationship. To this day they have supported the development of circus in the country via annual fundraising and international advocacy. In 2012 they visited again to find many of the acrobats who were students in 2009 now being successful in their art and performance careers whilst also shining as teachers, mentors and role models via their work as social circus workers. In 2012-13 Let's Circus will again raise funds to see that circus outreach activities will continue to flow into some of the poorest of communities, including slum schools and detention centres. This money will come from benefit gigs, private donations and your good intentions. Buy a weekly drink for an acrobat
Save all of your small coins for a year
Put on a show in your garden
Donate a gig's fee
Pass the hat around the office for a good cause

Without these private donations, this outreach into poor communities and the invaluable social benefits that they lead to will not continue. Donate via paypal to

In January 2014 Let's Circus plans a further trip to Kenya, this time bringing a circus of suitably skilled volunteers along as well. Would the experience of teaching and creating professional circus in Africa be a life-changing experience for you?

Times are tough for everyone right now - particularly so for those who are suffering from crippling drought in East Africa on top of the Covid pandemic and an economic collapse.

Please contribute to this fundraiser to place funds directly into the hands of the Maasai community of our dear friend Jacob Parit Ole Noomek.

The price of a round of drinks will feed cattle for a fortnight and a family for a week.

Every contribution will make a considerable difference to the lives of struggling families.

We are very pleased that soon this will be possible again! For four years these identical twin artists have lived in different places! It is a drop in the ocean, but we hope that they can together, in time, can make something special for others.

Special thanks to our wonderful Backyard Cabaret Audience in Wangi Wangi. You have been declared The first Sarakasi Heroes of 2015! Because you were so generous and have contributed just shy of 5000-AUS$ to support youth and children's circus projects in Nairobi, Kenya.
If there are any more people out there who would like to make a contribution to this good cause, please contact Steve Cousins or Helen Averley. Remember - All the money will be spent on local circus artists/educators who will teach children circus in a variety of contexts for fun and social skills. Thanks to Steve's mum Pina for hosting the event and the nearly 300 people who attended. And of course a special thanks to our crew and artists who donated their skills and time. Ben, Toy, Robyn, Davva, Chloe, Matilda, Holly, Daryl, Luke, Natalie, Moonbeam, Charlie, and to the neighbours for joining in and especially to David and Pat for all the mowing.

On Saturday night we host the Backyard Cabaret, our special Australian fundraising event that supports the Outreach work of the Sarakasi Trust in Nairobi. We aim to raise $4000 this year, to see a considerable programme of outreach change the lives of children and young people in some of Nairobi's most disadvantaged communities.

This film follows some of the artists of Sarakasi and shows the positive impact of the arts outreach programme.

We look forward to bringing our world of circus to Wangi, and supporting this fantastic provision once again.

In the run-up to our fundraising event for 2015, it seems fitting to look back upon some of the acts that have graced our backyard in the past.

The Hectic Brothers, Dream State Circus, LIT Circus, Orkestra del Sol, Circus Avalon, The Balloonatic, Joe Baxter, Andrew Elliot, etc....

What a great bunch of memories, and a record of fantastic people doing fantastic things for a fantastic cause.

Meet Moses and Francis, and see the work they do with Sarakasi Trust in Kenya. We will soon be launching our 2015 Campaign to raise money for the valuable outreach work that acrobats like Moses and Francis have been doing in Nairobi.

If you are thinking of a charitable christmas gift, think of the kids in Kibera who love to have positive role models like Moses and Francis come into their community each week and help give them strength, skills and confidence. We'll be launching our campaign on December 15.

It's been a while since we've posted this film, as it's been a while since we were active on the ground in Nairobi. That said, we're thinking of our friends back in Kenya - the acrobats and dancers of Sarakasi Trust and the Sarakasi Trust Hospital Project!

Meanwhile, we're enjoying working with Rahim, Rama and Juma of the Afrikan Warriors in the UK, as part of our SO Festival tour in Lincolnshire.
