Check out this fella! - This week in the hot seat is Rob

Rob is currently on a placement in Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service at Coen Primary Health Care Cente.

Coen services a hovering population while there are around 320 'locals', Coen serves as a major service hub along the Peninsula Developmental Road. During the dry season (May to October), the actual number of people in the area swells significantly as tourists and four-wheel-drive travellers pass through.

Here is what Rob had to say:

'I have had the pleasure of working with RRC since the beginning of the year. I am currently mid-way through a placement in a gorgeous town called Coen.

Coen is one of the stops on the way to the tip, so we see a lot of tourists. From Grey nomads, young travellers, campers or old fellas who probably shouldn't be riding motorbikes, everyone driving through stops off at the 'Sexchange' hotel to cool off and quench the thirst. It is also well known that you may wake up with a docile Brahman hanging out in your garage, backyard or wherever it has deemed an appropriate place to sleep.

Coen is a beautiful close community with lovely people and amazing staff here at the clinic. Would recommend!!

RRC's TAKE IT BACK THURSDAY ⭐️

Today in the hot seat is Yashoda and we are taking it back to Mt Isa!

Shoda has recently completed a contract in at - North West Hospital and Health Service
Mount Isa is the main hospital for North West Queensland. Their emergency department is open 24 hours a day and also offer a range of services including, maternity, mental health, kidney, heart and outpatient care.

Here is what Shoda had to say:

Thank you to the amazing rural and remote team for my Mount Isa contract, which gave me the opportunity to explore this beautiful place. A special thank you to Mount Isa Hospital for allowing me to use the amenities to volunteer my time and teach yoga classes to my wonderful workmates.

I am not sure if we are recruiting nurses or photographers over here, but we are loving it!

⭐️WELCOME BACK WEDNESDAY ⭐️

Today we have Martina back in the hot seat 💅
Martina is currently on contract at Laura Primary Health Care Centre
up in the Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service

🔆 FYI: The Laura community is located along the Laura River - approximately 300km North-West of Cairns.
The hilly, sandstone bluffs surrounding the town contain some of the largest galleries of Aboriginal rock art to be found in Australia. Many of the galleries feature depictions of Quinkans, spirits or supernatural beings who are traditionally believed to inhabit the sandstone bluffs. For this reason, the Laura area is often referred to as Quinkan country.

🏡The Laura Primary Health Care Centre is managed by remote nurses and has visiting specialists, Indigenous health workers and community health services.

Today in the hot seat is Steph!

Steph has recently completed a contract in at North West Hospital and Health Service - Mount Isa.

Here is what Steph had to say

'Mount Isa originated as a mining town on the banks of the Leichardt River which has turned into a vibrant outback town with some unique features, from mine tours, camels, the underground hospital and rodeo.

RRC team was amazing in getting placement information sorted and I felt supported in the preparation for my first placement. Any support I needed, the team was available and prompt to help. Nursing accommodation on site was great, very clean and comfortable. Outpatients was fast paced, team was great and work enjoyable'

This week in the hot seat is Delaney

'I have been lucky enough to be part of the Rural and Remote Connect team since February, and I've loved every second of it!
The team is incredibly supportive and always keeps staff updated with vacancies and education opportunities.

My contracts have included:

✨Collinsville✨

Every place has been absolutely beautiful, and each community and facility has been so welcoming.

If you are thinking about joining the RRC team - I could not recommend it more highly!
It is such a beautiful way to discover the hidden gems of Queensland while working alongside amazing people along the way.

We LOVE Famous Fridays here at RRC!

This week in the hot seat is Jodie - who is currently on a placement at Palm Island at Joyce Palmer Health Service

🏥 The Joyce Palmer Health Service is an 11-bed primary-level acute facility located on the Aboriginal community of Palm Island.
A stones throw away from Townsville - a perfect place to dip your toes in Rural and Remote Nursing (pun intended) 🌴🌅

🗯️Here is what Jodie had to say about her time at Joyce Palmer

You get here by ferry or plane from Townsville!

It’s a beautiful island with a large Indigenous community.

There is a general store, takeaway shops, cafe, pub with meals, local chemist & medical centre, post office, QAS & QPS & of course the hospital.

There are some great sights to visit with gorgeous lookouts & hiking tracks for the outdoors person - plus there is a walk called cardiac hill - definitely cardio workout!

The quarters are great, big room, queen bed, own ensuite, shared kitchens & laundry!
There is a pool table, TV room with puzzles & games, some fishing gear & a basic gym all downstairs in the quarters!

The permanent staff & doctors are great, all are welcoming & supportive. They always appreciate the extra hands on deck with RRC & agency staff that come & go!

The OSO staff are made up of island folk & are always happy & helpful & have great fishing spots & may even take you on a cruise to see around the island if they have the time on your days off!

Palm Island is a great experience - come along & give it a go!
