We are back baby! - Today in the hot seat is Naomi!
Once known for declaring, “I’m too British for this,” she’s now proving otherwise, travelling Queensland and working nursing contracts in some of the state's most remote communities.
💚 Let's just get straight to it, here is what Naomi had to say..
I’m exploring Queensland and having the time of my life! So far, I’ve done three contracts with RRC: Palm Island, Cunnamulla and Weipa. Each place has been completely different, and everyone has been so, so good in its own way. I’ve learned heaps, met some fantastic people and had experiences I probably wouldn’t have had otherwise.
Townsville Hospital and Health Service - Palm Island 🌴
My first contract, and such a special place to start! The team were so welcoming, and the view from the front of the hospital is pretty hard to beat. I was lucky enough to be travelling across during whale season, so the ferry would stop whenever a pod of whales came past. Free whale watching on the way to work - can’t complain about that! The presentations were so varied, and as you can see from the photo, there were plenty of visits from the retrieval chopper to keep things interesting.
South West Hospital and Health Service - Cunnamulla 🌈
A proper outback experience! The community welcomed me straight away, and the staff made me feel like one of their own. I never once felt like I was agency staff, which made such a difference. I had an absolute ball working here and came away having learned something new on every shift. The hot springs in town were also a personal highlight! And, of course, that’s me with the Cunnamulla Fella statue - you can’t visit Cunnamulla and not get the obligatory photo.
Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service - Weipa 🌞
Another world again! The team were fantastic - friendly, knowledgeable and supportive. The work was varied and definitely kept me on my toes, and the sunsets from the beach were pretty hard to beat. There’s a great social scene with the staff, and plenty of opportunities for camping, fishing and exploring on your days off.
💚 The RRC office team: Behind the scenes, the RRC office team have been amazing. They’re friendly, efficient and so approachable, and somehow always seem to have everything sorted before I’ve even thought to ask! They’re also always happy to see me when I randomly pop into the office for a chat. It’s clear they genuinely have your best interests at heart, and having that support makes such a difference when you’re moving between towns, hospitals and teams.
The biggest dilemma so far? Wanting to go back to all the places I’ve worked while also wanting to keep exploring somewhere new! What I’ve loved most about this experience is learning something new on pretty much every shift, working alongside some fantastic teams and getting to see parts of Queensland I might never have visited otherwise. The communities have been so welcoming, and every placement has left me with great memories, new skills and experiences I’ll take with me to the next one.
Three contracts down, and I’m already wondering where I’ll end up next! ❤️
