One trend we're continuing to see across the real estate and property sector is longer hiring timeframes. Whether it's waiting for internal approvals, coordinating multiple interview stages, or delaying decisions while exploring additional candidates, recruitment processes are often taking longer than they did a few years ago.

The challenge is that strong candidates rarely remain available for long.

Many of the professionals we speak with are actively engaged in multiple conversations at once. While they may be genuinely interested in a particular opportunity, they are also progressing through interview processes elsewhere. By the time feedback is provided or a second interview is scheduled, another employer may have already made a decision.

This doesn't mean employers should rush the hiring process or compromise on finding the right fit. However, it does highlight the importance of having a clear and efficient process in place.

The organisations securing the strongest talent are typically those that:

The hiring market across Australia’s real estate and property sector continues to shift and it’s creating an interesting balancing act for employers.

Candidates today are placing greater emphasis on flexibility, leadership, team environment, career progression and overall workplace experience when considering opportunities.

Amazon alone has committed $20 billion to Australian data centre infrastructure between 2025 and 2029. NEXTDC is building a 550MW campus in Sydney. AirTrunk has approval for a 354MW campus in Melbourne and that's just what's been announced.

APAC data centre capacity is forecast to grow from 32GW to 57GW by 2030 and Australia is one of the region's most sought-after destinations for hyperscale investment.

The latest SEEK Employment Trends report is out and if you're in property, development or construction, here's what you need to know. 🏗️

Overall, Australian job ads fell 2.3% year-on-year, reaching their lowest point since June 2022. But construction is bucking the trend.

Here's what caught our eye:
→ Construction was one of only two sectors to record positive growth nationally (+4.3%) year-on-year → Queensland led the charge with Construction up +6.9% — the strongest performance among higher-volume states
→ Western Australia continued its strong run, with Construction job ads up +15.7% and the state recording overall job ad growth of +1.8% — one of only two states in positive territory
→ Real Estate & Property saw a modest -1.2% nationally, relatively resilient compared to broader professional services declines
→ Applications per ad remain high vs the five-year average, meaning more candidates are chasing fewer roles, so finding the right fit requires more than just posting a job ad
