Today is World Environment Day, and we’ve got good news.
“Apprenticeships in the clean energy sector are on the rise,” said the Hon Chris Bowen MP, Minister for Climate Change and Energy.
In the last three years, more apprentices have chosen to follow a career pathway in energy industries such as solar, automotive and smart technology.
The Key Apprenticeship Program (KAP) has two streams, with one focusing on new energy apprenticeships. The initiative offers incentives to support people training in the sector and has helped attract and retain apprentices.
“The new energy stream of the program has seen a strong retention rate, with 85 per cent of apprentices remaining in their apprenticeship after the first year, signalling improved completion rates and delivering a major boost for Australia’s renewable workforce,” said the Minister.
“In the last six months of the program, more than a quarter of new energy commencements have occurred, representing significant growth in interest in clean energy apprenticeships as Australia continues its transition to renewable energy.”
As the demand for green skills continues to grow, more career pathways are opening for those who want to use their work and knowledge to support Australia’s sustainability goals.
Best of all, these skills can be built through tailored apprenticeship programs, with access to incentives and support to help complete training.
