From 1 March 2025, all Queensland businesses must have a Sexual Harassment Prevention Plan in place. It’s now a legal requirement under workplace health and safety laws, and failing to comply could mean fines of up to $9,679.

Sure, you can grab the free template from WorkSafe QLD (link in comments), but a template alone isn’t enough. You also need to:

✔ Train your staff so they know their rights and responsibilities.
✔ Update your harassment policy to reflect the latest legal requirements.
✔ Consult with your workforce to ensure the plan is effective and inclusive.

With medicinal cannabis use on the rise in Australia, employers are stuck between a rock and a… well, a very relaxed employee. On one hand, you’ve got workplace safety and performance concerns. On the other, you can’t discriminate against someone using legally prescribed medication.

And here’s the kicker. Terminating an employee for breaching your drug & alcohol policy isn’t as straightforward as it used to be. If medicinal cannabis is legally prescribed, a blanket “serious misconduct” approach could land you in legal hot water. Dismissals need to be carefully managed, considering workplace safety, reasonable adjustments, and unfair dismissal risks.

So, what’s the solution?

No one wants a creepy colleague ruining the festive cheer. Hands off and leave the dodgy jokes locked behind a 12-digit password in your phone. Honestly, just good life advice.

🥂 2. Thou shalt resist the urge to pash thy coworker.
No one wants to witness Karen and Steve swapping remnants of mini quiches and pavlova mid-snog. Keep it classy, not cringy.

🪡 3. Thou shalt not confess thy voodoo doll secrets.
Your nightly ritual of sticking pins into “Boss Barry” is your business. Keep your bedtime revenge routine private – you never know who’s eavesdropping.

🎤 4. Thou shalt not invite Uncle Brendan.
You know he’s trouble. Last year he sang Last Christmas nine times - you are not George Michael. Spare us.
