This morning we were thrilled to support Matt McFarlane by hosting an event for the HR and People & Culture community in Brisbane.

It was a great morning of valuable discussion about the role HR leaders play in business performance. Thank you to our panel of speakers, Luana Latham, Lisa Lan & Sally O'Connor, for sharing practical ways we can influence business success through our actions and initiatives for the people.

We hope this becomes a regular series because of the many great takeaways that we can implement.

Staff Spotlight: Courtney Garrett

Courtney thrives working as part of a team that is open-minded and where everyone bounces off ideas and feedback from each other.

She is known for her determination to succeed and is always willing to go above and beyond to help others and make those around her feel empowered.

Before joining the BLACKROC team, Courtney was an International Flight Attendant based in Melbourne performing under pressure and helping solve passenger’s travel problems. Now, she is working in a fast-paced environment, helping solve business problems with software engineering solutions and enjoying building relationships with some of the industry’s best talent along the way.

Outside of recruitment, Courtney enjoys socialising and meeting new people, getting outdoors on a hiking adventure, traveling to new destinations, or training in Jiu-jitsu.

Stephen enjoys working with like-minded people in a high performing environment where everyone is pushing themselves for a common goal.

He enjoys helping build successful teams as well as helping Candidates find opportunities that are more aligned to help them grow and develop.

Stephen is detail-orientated and results driven, so expect him to be persistent in his follow up.

Stephen has a degree in Sport & Exercise Science as well as an MBA from the University of Liverpool, and most recently, he has been in professional football (soccer) as a First Team Scout at Manchester United where he was identifying and reporting on potential players across Europe.

Since relocating from Ireland with his wife and three boys this year, Stephen is making the most of his new home in Queensland by exploring the outdoors and of course, you will still be able to find him playing football (soccer) to keep fit.

Staff Spotlight: Regan Roulston

Regan has been in recruitment since he graduated from high school.

He revels in the opportunity to sit down with companies, find out their pain points in hiring and deliver premium quality talent fast – and in some cases talent that the company didn’t even realise was out there.

“At BLACKROC, we have an obsessive nature to be the best in each of our spaces. The culture and team collaboration are unparalleled – we all get around each other, to support each other to win.”

Regan is known for his compassionate leadership skills, ability to unite teams and lead by example, which can all be contributed to his success as a business owner, Director and Recruiter all before he was 25.

Outside of work, Regan is inspiring others in sports. A massive sports fan; whatever is on television he’ll watch it and what's more, give him a sport to try and he'll perfect it within days.

Staff Spotlight: Jason Roulston

For Jason, BLACKROC is the company he always wanted to create after becoming a Business Owner at 23.

Jason's focus within BLACKROC is Senior Executive recruitment, business operations and strategy, and group business development.

“Our philosophy is simple - we're a people-first business. We're agile and embody the right values that make a modern recruitment business prosperous.”

Jason started his career in IT recruitment almost straight from high school; 2021 marks a decade in the IT & Digital recruitment industry and 8 years as a company owner. He’s started businesses from scratch, successfully exited those businesses, built recruitment teams in different markets and hired almost 100 Recruiters. Along the way, he’s made plenty of mistakes but has grown from them.

Ultimately, Jason gains job satisfaction from seeing teams succeed and become highly regarded industry professionals. He has a passion for finding and nurturing superstar Recruiters.

Away from work, Jason enjoys reading non-fiction books and anything that can be tracked on Strava - cycling, running, and his early morning walks. He’s also fascinated by the stock market.

Over the weekend, some of the team competed in the Spartan Race. We were expecting a bit more competitiveness to come from them on the day, but instead, it was a great team bonding experience.

Who doesn't love excessive burpees, crawling through dirty water, struggling over inverted walls and being neck-deep in mud to really get closer to your colleagues?

Outside of work, Olivia is keeping fit at group fitness classes or walking by the water, she also loves trying new restaurants around Brisbane and is a big Formula 1 fan (team McLaren over here).

Olivia is a Resourcer in Product Management at BLACKROC, who comes from a strong background in sales and customer service.
